Roosevelt Corollary

It all started where in the Dominican Republic, their government stopped paying off their debts. the Monroe Doctrine originally stated to keep all European nations of Latin America. That is why in this political cartoon, an European country has a claim to take the Republic of Santo Domingo away. However, Roosevelt as a gun with the label that says "Monroe Doctrine". There are many examples of labeling in this cartoon. For example, the ship represents the U.S. the cartoonist is stating that Roosevelt wants the Monroe Doctrine to affect all European nations, since that's why he made it in the first place! Other people might disagree or say that the other country wants to help him. But as the card in his hand says, he wants to take control of the country. Also in the background, you can see that their are other ships ready to shoot.
